Petrified wood

We all see petrified wood at least once in our life, but some people may not know that petrified wood is actually a rock. Being petrified is when something turns to stone, which comes from the Greek word “petro” meaning stone. When a tree petrifies, the organic materials inside the tree are replaced with minerals. Water that is rich with these minerals deposits itself in the tree’s cells and hardens into stone.  A regular tree can be infected with a bug or virus, but a petrified tree cannot, because it is no longer a living thing. It is more like a statue, for that matter. When it petrifies, it actually becomes a fossil. A petrified tree is a dead tree. For more info go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrified_wood
